Interstate 75

Dayton, Ohio

The project involves improvement of 1.21 miles of Interstate 75 by adding an additional lane in each direction and replacement of structures over Stewart, Germantown, Albany, and Washington Streets; over CSX and Norfolk Southern Railroad tracks; and over Edwin C. Moses Boulevard.  The project also includes partial replacement of bridges over Cincinnati Street and US-35 and removal of the partial diamond interchange with Albany Street and the bridge over the abandoned Conrail Railroad tracks.

This project contains many challenges including a requirement to maintain service to 125,000 vehicles per day, necessitating a complex maintenance of traffic plan requiring three major stages of construction and 18 substages (phases). Work in the Great Miami River consisted of excavation of 100,000 CY of channel material for use as embankment behind MSE retaining wall.

The portion of the project over Norfolk Southern and CSX Railroads involves demolition and reconstruction of mainline I-75 bridges and ramps over heavily used tracks. A complex CPM schedule with over 1200 activities is being utilized to help manage the work.
