The Ruhlin Company constructed a new movable two span bascule pedestrian bridge over a boat water passageway. During the project, all boat traffic was maintained without interruption. The highly visible and occasionally congested location required coordination with the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, Great Lakes Science Center, The City of Cleveland and the Downtown Alliance.
The new CDM Smith designed bridge spans 120 feet and has two 60 foot sections. The movable bridge is powered by an hydraulic operating system that is controlled in an new, stand alone, structure. The new building provides a bridge operator workspace in a safe conditioned workspace. During the construction of the bridge abutments, cofferdams were utilized and provided a water tight work environment. In addition, barge work was required for multiple portions of the project. Once installed, the bridge was highlighted with aesthetic and navigation lighting.
