US 422 Bridge over Harper Road was struck by a piece of equipment, causing damage to the fascia beam and cross bracing severe enough to close the right eastbound lane. The original plan called for heat straightening the damaged beam, necessitating closing Harper Road northbound and blocking the on-ramp for westbound US 422 for a minimum of four weeks. Ruhlin suggested simplifying the repair by replacing only a portion of the damaged beam at existing splice locations and performing work over a weekend to minimize disruption to the 400 surrounding businesses employing over 20,000 people.
The project’s original schedule was four- to six-weeks with a $275,000 budget. Ruhlin completed the project, including all materials labor and sub work, in three days for under $120,000.
