Western Reserve Academy – Athenaeum Renovation

The Ruhlin Company was awarded this project consisting of a complete renovation of the existing student dormitory/staff apartment building. Renovation of this facility includes a total interior “gut” of the building, including structural framing while maintaining the shell of the building, excavation to lower the basement elevation to create more space, and a complete rebuild of the interior. Basement space is created for new mechanical and electrical systems, living quarters, and laundry rooms. The remaining four floors are fitted with living and lounge space (1st floor), dormitory rooms (2nd – 4th floors) and staff living quarters (2nd and 4th floors). Replacement of existing entrances and windows will also enhance the existing facility. Other improvements include new site utility upgrades and other site improvements.

The Athenaeum has been an iconic building on Western Reserve Academy’s campus for decades and has served multiple purposes for students and faculty since opening in 1843.
