The Ruhlin Company renovated this 37,000 SF, 100 year old Seymour Hall academic building and re-purposed the space into 29 classrooms (up from 24 originally), four shared office spaces for faculty, and a conference room for meetings. Other improvements include the addition of an elevator, modern heating and cooling system, technological advancements, updating the building’s exterior and infrastructure, and upgraded furnishings to encourage 21st century learning modalities.
The project included stripping the building down to its studs but kept key historical elements such as the grand staircase. A new roof was installed as well as an elevator. All the windows in the structure were replaced with hand crafted units. The huge double hung windows operate, a unique feature for their size.
Energy efficiency was a key component of the renovation. Geothermal heating and cooling, occupancy lighting and new insulation were installed.
